Our Mission
Chang Land is an elephant friendly sanctuary devoted to the conservation and preservation of the endangered majestic Asian elephant. Rescued elephants are provided a safe, caring and ethical environment as they interact with humans. The sanctuary is committed to providing education coupled with hands-on experiences aimed at helping people understand the realities, challenges and opportunities that the Asian elephant faces. In the process, Chang Land supports the local community through job creation.
About
Established in 2019 as an ethical elephant sanctuary, guests have the opportunity at Chang Land to interact positively and respectfully with our herd, the symbol of Thailand’s history and culture. At Chang Land, guests can bond with the elephants as they feed them bananas or sugar cane; learn about elephants and the local Hill Tribe culture; make medicinal herb balls from local ingredients and feed the balls to the elephants; walk with the elephants into the mountains along beautiful nature trails, and observe how the elephants interact with each other as well as their jungle environment; and at the end of the walk, guests can take a refreshing bathe with the elephants in the river that runs through the sanctuary.
Chang Land with its lush green rice paddies, is located in a quiet mountainous valley, removed from the noise and bright lights of the city. Aware of the effects of Global Warming is having on the planet and wanting to play its part in solving the problem, the sanctuary is solar powered. Given Chang Land’s amazing location, the air is pure and at night, overnight guests can, if they are lucky, see the Milky Way as it fills the evening sky.
Whether guests come for a day, a week, or a month, they all agree that Chang Land is a one-of-a-kind sanctuary they will visit again.
