In Thai, waan means sweet and is the perfect name for this elephant. Still a teenager, Waan in addition to being sweet, can be a bit spicy, with an independent mind of her own which keeps life exciting for the herd.

When she first arrived at the camp from a very remote mountainous part of Thailand, 40ish year-old Moe Khae preferred to walk the trails by herself. Still, something of a loner, the herd has help Moe Khae feel welcome.

In her early 20s, Mali had a cesarian (C-Section) when she could not deliver her baby. Unfortunately, the baby did not live. Upon return from the elephant hospital, the herd welcomed her, helping her to adjust to life following the unsuccessful delivery.

The oldest elephant at close to 60 years of age, Mae Chan is the “Grande Dame,” of the herd, respected and loved by all the younger elephants.

A very sweet little girl, Honey is 5 years old. Her best friend is Mali. The two of them are constantly together, whether greeting guests or walking along the mountain trails.

Weighing 4 ton and over 50 years old, Boon Nam is our largest elephant. She is indeed a gentle giant who is also the herd’s matriarch.

A young teenage female elephant, Oum is one of the newest additions to the herd. She too like Moe Khae came from a remote part of Thailand, but given her loving personality, was quickly accepted into the herd.

A special girl, Aom Gord was born one cold night at Chang Land, 9 years ago. She loves to walk with her mom along the mountain trails where her mom, Boon Nam can teach her about elephant life in the jungle.
